SWOT Analysis of The Marriott Group International Overview Marriott Group International is a well-known global brand in the hospitality sector. This hospitality group has more than 3,900 properties, and 18 brands and associates spread across the world. The company, head was founded more than 80 years ago by J. Willard and Alice Marriott while the Marriott family has continued to guide the group. The company has its headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. In the fiscal year 2013, the groupââ¬â¢s reported revenues were $13 billion. The group was founded in 1927, and for nearly 60 years, the group has been guided by the vision of J.W. ââ¬Å"Billâ⬠Marriott, Jr., a pioneer of modern-day hospitality. It was his vision that led to the successful growth of Marriott into one of the most successful and respected companies of the world that Marriott is today. Currently, the company is led by its CEO Arne Sorenson (Marriott 2013 Annual Report). Beginning of the Marriott Group The history of Marriott is traced to May of 1927, with a nine seat AW Root Beer stand in Washington DC by John Willard (Bill) Marriott. The Marriott Root Beer stand evolved into a family restaurant chain called Hot Shoppes, which in 1937 expanded into in-flight airline catering (Hartman Werhane, 2013: 249).
